The motor will attempt (until something breaks) to produce the same power output as it would on a 220v. If the motor is 1.5hp it draws about 1000watts at maximum operation. Using: P = IV, P = power, I = amperage, V = voltage. P will remain constant (say max 1000 watts). If you halve voltage, current doubles. In itself, that's not a huge deal.

Ireland power plug and concern about 230 V vs. 220 V. I am travelling from Hong Kong to Ireland. In Hong Kong type G (220V, 50Hz) plugs and sockets are used.
