First of all the tortoise would need to be slower than the warclaw, otherwise it invalidates the mount. If it's slower than running though, you'd just run up to a position and then mount up. It has to hit a speed between running and warclaw, and I'm pretty sure there is no in-between. The second reason is siege damage.
It was a really awesome experience and since then I'd been hoping GW2 would get a 2 player mount one day! I'm beyond excited to offer friends who want a tour around GW2 a similar experience! 🙂 The implementation of mounts in this game is easily the best in any game I've played so I cant wait to try this one out!
The siege turtle stays after you dismount it for combat. The siege turtle does not dismount you after firing the canons, dismounting as the driver still gets rid of the mount. The partner can speed up the ammo recharge and the speed of the turtle. It seems that you need a partner for optimal siege turtle piloting.

Movement looked smooth enough to me for a giant turtle. You also have the camera turn for proper aiming. It has a decent amount of HP, which makes sense for a Siege Mount. They also took things like looting, ammo regeneration, water areas and visual clutter into account when they designed the mount - that's definitely a plus.
It's really fun to stomp around Drizzlewood with it, and Gyala uses it in its meta events, but those are pretty much the only times you'll bother with it. But then again even if you go ahead and unlock all Tyria waypoints on a turtle that still doesn't warrant a suspension because using turtle to unlock WPs is not an exploit therefore not against ToS. I personally never gone too far to unlock all WPs in a hour or so, but been using turtles to unlock a few WPs I need to reach at that moment. Same for skiffs. Fishing itself as a major xpack feature is just quite pathetic. We don't know the balance on how the turtle damage is gonna turn out just yet but If I had to guess, It's going to be lower than your character's assuming you are using more than 2 buttons. Just treat the turtle as a coop mount not a combat mount.

People still have to get through more Strikes for the new stat trinkets. Almost everything else about the expansion is awesome but forcing people into Strikes is as dumb as forcing people into raids. These aren't Legendaries and if people had to play WvW for the turtle mount even though it's an open world feature, there would be riots.
