Texas. Feb 5, 2018. #1. I ran across some information on my Mazda’s (Ford) Duratec 3.7 V6. Looks like the Water Pump is internal to the engine and driven by the timing chain. Any failure by gasket or pump can trash the engine quickly by spilling coolant into the oil. I read somewhere the 2012’s have a beefed-up impeller making the failures
